01Representing IPEC
As an ambassador or volunteer you act in the Council's name. What you say about IPEC will be taken as the Council's position.
Describe IPEC's work accurately. Do not claim results, partnerships, accreditations or government endorsements that the Council does not hold. If you are unsure whether something is accurate, ask before saying it.
You may not enter commitments on the Council's behalf, sign agreements, or accept funds in its name.
02Conduct in institutions
You are a guest in every institution you work with. Follow its rules, its safeguarding requirements and its instructions.
Treat staff, students and community members with respect. Do not photograph, record or publish anything about an institution without its permission.
The Child Safeguarding Policy applies to you in full whenever you are working with anyone under eighteen.
03Commitment
Complete the training pathway for your domain before taking on institutional outreach.
Do what you have undertaken to do, or tell the Council promptly that you cannot. An institution that has been promised support and does not receive it is worse off than one that was never approached.
Report annually on your contribution.
04Confidentiality
Information you learn about an institution in the course of volunteering is confidential to it. Do not repeat it, publish it or use it for any other purpose.
05Conflicts of interest
Declare any personal or commercial interest that could affect your work as an ambassador. Do not use an ambassador role to generate business for yourself or your employer.
06What you can expect from IPEC
Training appropriate to the role, access to the Council's frameworks and materials, a named point of contact, recognition of your contribution, and a clear answer when you ask a question.
07Ending a volunteer relationship
You may step back at any time. Please tell your point of contact so that any institution relying on you can be supported.
The Council may end a volunteer relationship where this code is breached, where conduct puts an institution or a child at risk, or where the Council's name has been misused. Serious breaches are acted on immediately.
